What is paradise? Ask anyone, and they’ll tell you paradise is an island in deep blue waters with hills, plenty of trees, fishing, swimming, and not many, if any at all, people. If that’s your idea of paradise, then we’re happy you called on Avalon movers A&A Moving Company to bring you out here.
You’ll follow the truck moving to Avalon onto a ferry to reach the island. Please note that only golf carts, bicycles, motorcycles, and feet are the only transportation allowed on the island. You’ll still need your car, though, because the big box stores are all in L. A.

Avalon’s Beginnings
Wikipedia’s history section tells us that Avalon was first developed in the late 1880s by a Grand Rapids, MI real estate developer named Shatto. His sister-in-law, Etta Whitney, named the town Avalon for the mystical isle on which the tales tell us King Arthur was buried when he died.
It went through the hands of several developers (most of whom went bankrupt before and after both world wars) including the Wrigley family of chewing gum fame. The last Wrigley, Philip, deeded the family shares of the Santa Catalina Island Company to the Catalina Island Conservancy that he set up. So the city has stayed more or less in the family to this day.
Avalon Attractions
As a popular Facebook meme goes, one doesn’t simply have Avalon movers A&A Moving Company bring you out here just to live. You need adventure, society, and fun. Thus:
Catalina Island Zipline Eco Tour
Do you love fast roller coasters and the higher, the better? Do you love nature in all its glory and mystery? Why not combine the two when you take a zip line tour? Just drive to 1 St. Catherine Way in Avalon to access five lines beginning 600 feet up with 1,100 feet of nature-viewing excellence.
You’ll be zipping along at 30 mph over not quite a mile 300 feet over the treetops. You’ll stop at stations along the way for guides to tell you all about what you’re flying over such as the history and the wildlife. Bon voyage!
Ocean Runner Excursion
What’s the fun of living on an island if you’re not boating? Each island has its own personality and tells its own story. Catalina Island has dolphins and sea lions. Drive to the Green Pleasure Pier in Avalon and climb aboard.
A high-speed marine adventure will have the wind screaming around you and through your hair. The sea lions and dolphins are a bonus, because this fast view of the island is exhilarating in itself.
Miniature Golf
If staying on terra firma is more attractive to land lubbers, then feast your eyes on the green. The miniature golf course, that is. At 10 Island Place in Avalon, you’ll find 18 holes in one of the most challenging mini golf courses of stunning beauty. Open every day year round, you’ll love this award-winning course.
Behind The Scenes Casino Tour
Errol Flynn, Ava Gardner, Bogie and Bacall walked the floors, danced in the ballroom, or appeared on the stage of the Catalina Casino. Big Band music, swing, and jazz surrounded the stars as they used the green room or mingled before viewing the latest talking picture show in the projection room.
One Casino Way is where you’ll go to begin a 45 minute walking tour as guides tell you whom among the stars trod the boards in the theater or sang and danced the magical nights away in the ballroom.
Avalon Harbor Lights
These are all day-time activities, though. What’s to see at night? We’re glad you asked. Following the truck moving to Avalon, you might pass 10 Island Plaza, where you’ll climb in an open Hummer to embark on a trip into the hills above Avalon.
The views of the city and harbor lights shining like stars on the water will take your breath away. Listen as the guide tells you all about the sheer romance of Catalina beneath the stars, and try to catch a glimpse of some of the furry night life.
Welcome to L. A. County and Southern California! You’ve chosen an exciting place to live in exciting times. A&A Moving Company would like to thank you and is glad you chose us to help move you into a new life on a spectacular island containing a down-home kind of town.
